I spent the Sunday waiting for my flight back walking the streets of Glasgow, came across some beautiful buildings:

No idea who did this but the detail and finish with the statues in their niches just brilliant! |

Made Me Smile! |
Michael, Great photos. The building with the statues is the Corinthian. Originally designed by David Hamilton, this facade was created by John Burnet in 1877 (and yes, of course I looked it up). Not sure about the Art School extension - I look forward to seeing it and reporting back Jim
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words and the info.
DeleteAs for the Rennie Mackintosh's School of Art I cannot recommend it highly enough inside and out it is a delight, the detailing is superb. As for the extension the out side (not been inside -yet!) is quite dramatic. I was ready to complain about post-modern architecture losing the plot but this extension is different. It works. Its sympathetic with the old, the two work together well. The monochrome green of the extension contrasting well with all the of shades blacks, greys, browns, of the original. (Hope that doesn't sound too pompous!) In short the two look good together.
I am told they have an outstanding MA course in fine art......let's check it out :-)
